Theken Moves Therics Manufacturing To Akron Ohio
Akron, OH – (March 7, 2007) Therics LLC, based in Princeton, N.J., a
orthobiologic company moved its manufacturing of synthetic bone
substitute products to Akron, Ohio. Therics is part of the Theken Family
of Companies (Theken Spine, LLC; Theken Disc, LLC; and Theken
Orthopaedic, Inc.) all headquartered in Akron, Ohio. Therics Research
and Development team will remain headquartered in the Princeton, N.J.
area.
“Mayor Plusquellic’s biomedical initiatives, along with the world renowned
health care systems such as Summa Health Care, the Cleveland Clinic and
University Hospitals make Akron a perfect location for Theken,” said Rachael
Smith, Director of Marketing Communications.
“Moving the facility was a large undertaking,” stated VP of Operations Ron Clough, “In addition to building out the space, we were required by the FDA to upgrade to ISO Class 8.” This Compliant Controlled Environment will house production of Therics Beta-Tricalcium Phosphate (ß-TCP) synthetic bone substitute products as well as Therics TheriGraft Putty.
Therics provides customized shaping of ß-TCP using rapid prototyping technology known as Theriform. The patented Theriform process developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) provides shapes, sizes and porosity not achievable by any other process.
While in Akron, Therics plans to expand their product offering, including a ß-TCP
flexible foam strip. Therics also expects to grow their distribution base, and
pursue OEM private labeling relationships.
