THEKEN RECEIVES FDA CLEARANCE FOR A NEW VERTEBRAL
BODY REPLACEMENT SYSTEM

Vu ePOD™ – Vertebral Body Replacement System is the fourth product out of six which Theken anticipates receiving FDA clearance in 2007

AKRON, OH (August 6, 2007) Theken Spine, a leader in spinal fixation systems, announces that the Vu ePOD Vertebral Body Replacement (VBR) system received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market in the United States (US). Vu ePOD is currently in the alpha phase and product launch is targeted for Fall 2007.

This is the fourth product out of six for which Theken anticipates receiving FDA clearance this year. Products cleared in 2007 include: Atoll™ Cervico-Thoracic System, Vu Mesh™ PEEKOPTIMA® Vertebral Body Replacement System and xPOD™ Adjustable Vertebral Body Replacement System.

With the addition of these new products, Theken Spine now offers a full product line to surgeons that includes fixation solutions and biologics for conditions located in all regions of the spine.

Theken worked with a team of design surgeons to develop Vu ePOD. It is indicated for use in the thoracolumbar spine (T1-L5) to replace a collapsed, damaged, or unstable vertebrae due to tumor or trauma (e.g., fracture).

The Vu ePOD Vertebral Body Replacement System is comprised of polymer (PEEK OPTIMA® LT) concave cages used in combination with titanium spacer components. The cages and spacers can be locked together using titanium set screws in a variety of geometric combinations to fit each individual patients pathology.
